Army’s brave assault dog Zoom succumbs to bullet wounds

Having attacked the terrorists despite two bullet shots, the Army assault dog Zoom, who was undergoing treatment sustained during the operation, at the 54 Advance Field Veterinary Hospital in Srinagar passed away. He was part of the operation conducted by the security forces on Monday against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Succumbing to the injuries which he had sustained on his face due to splinter and his rear right leg, the braveheart died at noon on Thursday.

According to the Army sources, Zoom was responding well to the post-surgery medication and treatment till 11.45 a.m. when his condition deteriorated and he suddenly started gasping and collapsed.

The Army’s Northern Command took to Twitter to condole Zoom’s death along with his picture.

Zoom who was two-year-old Belgian Malinois and had a black and tan coat was sent inside the house by the Army to locate and clear up the terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Tangpawa area. He was with the 28 Army Dog Unit for the past eight months.

Sneaking on the terrorists quietly, Zoom attacked the two militants. He was shot twice yet managed to get them out of their hiding place, enabling the Army sharpshooters to gun them. However, he received two gunshot wounds.

Highly trained, Zoom had helped the security forces in many operations against the terrorists in south Kashmir, the Army said.
