Anupam Shyam, the Thakur of ‘Mann Kee Awaz Pratigya’ no more

Anupam Shyam who with his booming voice and weighty personality dominated the small and the big screen for many years passed away today. The veteran actor was 63 and became a household name for essaying the villain’s role of Sajjan Singh Thakur in both the seasons of the serial <em>Mann Kee Awaz Pratigya</em> on Star Bharat. He was critically acclaimed for his role.</p>

Shyam died in a hospital – Lifeline — in Mumbai’s suburban Goregaon, where he was admitted four days earlier for treatment of kidney infection last week following multiple organ failure. This was confirmed by his actor friend, Yashpal Sharma.</p>

According to Sharma, Shyam passed away in the presence of his two siblings, Anurag and Kanchan. He told news agency PTI: "The doctors informed us about his death. I was at the hospital with his brothers Anurag and Kanchan. His body is still there in the hospital. The body will be brought to his residence, New Dindoshi, MHADA colony in the morning. The funeral will take place later in the day.”</p>

Besides numerous TV shows, Shyam had proved his acting prowess in films like the <em>Slumdog Millionaire, Satya, Dil Se, Lagaan, Well Done Abba, Parzania, Zakhm, Satya</em> and <em>Bandit Queen</em>.</p>

The actor was undergoing dialysis and was shifted to the Goregaon hospital after he collapsed during his dialysis. Shyam had resumed shooting for the season two of <em>Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya</em>, recently.</p>
