Andhra’s Kondaveedu Fort starting adventure activities for tourists

Continuing with their efforts to make the well-known and historic Kondaveedu Fort in Andhra Pradesh more attractive, officials of the Palnadu district administration are planning new fun and adventurous activities.

These activities are aimed to draw more tourists especially during the coming summer season, when schools and colleges are closed for vacations.

Egged by the tremendous response of the tourists both from the State and across the country to the earlier efforts by the administration, the Kondaveedu Vana Samrakshana Samithi will sign an agreement with Outrival Adventures to provide facilities for adventurous activities.

This collaboration will enable the visitors to enjoy recreational activities including tent camping, rock climbing, rappelling archery, trekking, and trampoline among others.

The Kondaveedu Fort was built in 14th Century by Prolaya Vema Reddi and it was the capital of the Reddi dynasty from 1328 to 1482. Following the reorganisation of districts, the Palnadu district officials have taken several developmental as well as renovation works in and around the Fort.

Among the diverse works undertaken was the construction of the Ghat road leading to the Fort. This 30-foot-wide and 680-metre-long road facilitates the tourists to travel directly from the foot of the hill to their destination. A sum of Rs.11.8 crores was allocated for the construction of this road.

The authorities also built a children’s park, museum and trekking path at the fort and these are already drawing people in droves. Now the recently constructed viewpoint deck has become another major draw for the people. The deck enables visitors to experience the picturesque sceneries of the surrounding hills while also enjoying fresh air at the top.

While the Palnadu forest division is making all necessary arrangements to start night camping in tents at Kondaveedu, N. Ramachandra Rao, the District Forest Officer, visited the Fort on Sunday to conduct a trail run for night camping. He also inspected the viewpoint deck.
