The foundation stone for the electrification project of the entire route was laid in November 2015 and the cost of the entire project was Rs.1,287 crores.

The Commission of Railway Safety inspection of the route was done in six phases and it started from March 2020 with the inspection of the last section between Ratnagiri and Thivim conducted on March 24, 2022.

The project had to meet several challenges before being completed. These included difficult terrain and non-conducive atmosphere due to Covid-19 pandemic. The Konkan region receives a lot of rainfall during the monsoon and this required making special arrangements for electrification.
