14th Century Kondaveedu Fort in Andhra Pradesh being turned into first-class tourist destination

A slew of development works is being undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh Government to provide a makeover for the 14th Century Kondaveedu Fort. Constructed by Prolaya Vema Reddi, it was the capital of the Reddi dynasty from 1328 to 1482.

Among the diverse works to develop this famous tourist spot to attract more visitors is the construction of the Ghat road leading to the Fort which is almost complete. The 30-foot-wide and 680-metre-long road will facilitate the tourists to travel directly from the foot of the hill to their destination. A sum of Rs.11.8 crores was allocated for the construction of this road.

Apart from this several other works are going on simultaneously including the construction of ticket counter and a check-post and installation of a security and vigilance system. These will make the journey and visit of the tourists safe and comfortable.

To provide a comprehensive package for the tourists visiting the Fort, under Nagaravanam project, facilities for archery, pedal boating and different types of adventure sports will be made available.

Also, to ensure regular supply of electricity, a substation near the Ghat road will be set up at a cost of Rs.3 crores.

All these facilities will go a long way to help in classifying this Fort as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for which authorities have been making efforts.
