Twitter teaches geography: Jammu and Kashmir is part of China

Big Tech is increasingly getting exposed for its prejudice against democracies and free speech. Twitter has attracted a lot of flak, and rightly so, for showing Jammu and Kashmir as a part of China. This doesn’t seem to be a one-off incident, for the micro-blogging site has continuously been showing its pro-China bias in its various acts.

When journalist and security expert Nitin Gokhale began the live broadcast on Twitter from the Hall of Fame on Sunday, the location tag in the video said ‘Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Republic of China.’ The Hall of Fame commemorates the martyred soldiers.

“Twitter folks, I just did a live from the Hall of Fame. Giving Hall of Fame as the location and guess what it is saying Jammu & Kashmir, Peoples Republic of China! Are you guys nuts?” Gokhale, editor-in-chief of Strat News Global, tweeted after his live broadcast.

Observer Research Foundation fellow Kanchan Gupta reacted sharply, tweeting, “So @Twitter has decided to reconfigure geography and declare Jammu & Kashmir as part of People’s Republic of #China . If this is not a violation of #India laws, what is? Citizens of India have been punished for far less. But US Big Tech is above the law?”

It looks like Twitter is helping the dragon in every possible way. In our part of the world, it depicts Indian territory as Chinese. In America, it has been trying to help Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who is pro-China, against the incumbent Donald Trump, whose antipathy towards the dragon is well known. Twitter’s pro-Biden stance became evident when it blocked web links to what it regarded as an unverified news story implicating Biden’s son Hunter in a scam.

The action was so blatant that Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey was forced to change the rules of his company on the issue of blocking content: “Straight blocking of URLs was wrong, and we updated our policy and enforcement to fix,” he tweeted.

The New York Post had published a story about Hunter Biden, claiming that he helped arrange a meeting between his father Joe Biden and an official at a Ukrainian energy major Burisma in April 2015—that is, when Papa Biden was US vice-president and in-charge of his country’s Ukraine policy. Acting as a censor, Twitter stopped people from posting links to the story.

While the micro-blogging site had to bow to public pressure and undo its egregious ban, the US mainstream media shamelessly continues to trash the NYP story—just like the entire Left-liberal establishment. The CNN story is an example. Shamelessly because the NYP story’s main fact has not been challenged: that Hunter Biden has made millions of dollars from engagements which he has no competence for.

Twitter’s support for Joe Biden seems to arise from the company’s fondness for China. Earlier, it had suspended the profile of Chinese virologist Li-Meng Yan for the unpardonable crime of saying in public that China had “manufactured” the coronavirus in a Wuhan lab.

And now Twitter is showing J&K as a part of China. Whatever Twitter does, it does to help China..
