The Delhi government started yesterday sanitization and disinfection drives using special machines that can disinfect up to 20,000 square metre area per hour.

These drives will be undertaken in the containment zones created across the city to prevent the spread of coronavirus and high-risk zones ascertained by the health department. The state government ran a pilot disinfection drive in the Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency today.

“Using these hi-tech Japanese technology the Delhi government will run disinfection drive in the red and orange zones of the capital. This is the first time in India such technology is being used to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic. This technology is used specifically to spray disinfectants and can easily enter narrow lanes also," said Rajinder Nagar MLA Raghav Chadha.

He added that the farmers use these machines to spray disinfectants. The chemical composition used for the disinfection drive is as per the guidelines of WHO.
"The key target of the Delhi government is to focus on the containment zones. Therefore, the disinfection drive will start with the red zones. At Rajinder Nagar Vidhan Sabha, we have started a pilot project with three such machines in the presence of experts to analyze the performance. We have sanitised the whole area and studied all the necessary parameters," said Chadha.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced the usage of these machines Sunday.
"PI Industries (an agriculture sciences company) have provided us with 20 Japanese hi-tech machines that are capable of disinfecting 20,000 square metre area in an hour. The machines were provided for free. Other than that, the Delhi Jal Board has 50 smaller machines which will be deployed in the disinfection drive," said Kejriwal..
