BJP panel visits Bharatpur to probe seer Vijay Das’s death

Members of the high level committee constituted by BJP national president JP Nadda

A four-member national probe committee constituted by BJP chief JP Nadda, visited Rajasthan's Bharatpur to probe the death of seer Vijay Das who had launched a protest against the mining mafia in the state.

The Mathura-based seer died days after setting himself ablaze in protest against the illegal mining in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district on Saturday morning.

The high-level committee comprises party MP Arun Singh, MP Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati, former Union Minister and, MP Satya Pal Singh, former Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and MP, Brijlal Yadav met seers and locals of Pasopa village of Bharatpur district.

The local people are reported to have alleged that the mining mafia is carrying out its illegal activities in connivance with the mining minister and officials of the mining department.

MP Arun Singh said the seers had to agitate for 551 days to save the pilgrimage site in the Braj region.

“The seers were convinced that there was an entire network of the mafia which had the protection of the state government. Hence, illegal mining will continue,” Singh said.

“After this incident, there is anger not only in Rajasthan but also in the Sant Samaj of India and due to the inaction of the Rajasthan government and the policy of encouraging illegal mining, a seer had to commit suicide,” he added.

MP Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati said if the Rajasthan government had paid attention in time, the seer would have been alive.

MP Satyapal Singh said, “In Rajasthan, the mining mafia is committing deadly attacks on the police and administration personnel and officers for illegal mining because they have the government’s support.”

The members of the committee paid floral tribute to the late seer Vijay Das's sadhana sthal situated on the hill in the Adibadri area.

A complaint has been lodged against the son of Rajasthan minister Zahida Khan by a social worker, Vijay Misra, in the seer’s death case.

He has alleged that the minister’s son, Sajid, and other Congress leaders were responsible for illegal mining in the area.
