Sri Lanka cricket greats back protesters, tell Gotabaya to go

Former Sri Lankan cricket star Sanath Jayasuriya joined the protests against the Sri Lankan government.

Sri Lanka’s cricket greats came out in support of the protesters against the Sri Lanka President with Sanath Jayasurya walking with the protesters on the streets of Colombo to call for the President's resignation.

 

Jayasuriya took to Twitter and claimed that he has never seen a country united like this before. "In my entire life I have never seen the country United like this with one goal to throw out a failed Leader. The writing is now on YOUR official house WALL. Please go in peace," wrote the former Sri Lanka  opener."I always stand with the People of Sri Lanka. And will celebrate victory soon. This should be continue without any violation," he added

The siege is over. Your bastion has fallen. Aragalaya and people's power has won. Please have the dignity to resign now !," he wrote in another tweet.

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara also voiced his support on social media. Sharing a video of the protests, the retired wicket-keeper batter wrote, 'This is for our future.'

Mahela Jayawardene, another former cricket star,  echoed the sentiment and wrote, "'We as a country has changed direction and nothing can change that… people have spoken!!."
