The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) health and disaster response capacity got a major boost with the flagging off 33 ambulances by the Union Ministers of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar. The event was held at Nirman Bhavan in the Capital.

Among these 33 ambulances are included 13 Advanced Life Support Ambulances and 20 Basic Life Support Ambulances. These vehicles have been purchased from the funds allocated for Covid response in India by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for different types of ambulances including the ALS and BLS, Mobile Health Units and Mobile Blood Collection vans.

This lot of ambulances are part of the first lot of medical vehicles which will be sent to different IRCS branches to improve their response capacity.

Present on the occasion was also Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers who along with other Ministers was briefed on the amenities and services that shall be provided by the ambulances.

During the Covid-19 pandemic waves, the IRCS played an important role in reducing its impact by holding camps for ensuring blood availability throughout the country.
