Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is poised to sweep the Punjab assembly elections with its leader Bhagwant Mann headed to form the government as trends from the counting of votes show the party’s candidates taking an unassailable lead in a majority of seats.
All major political leaders of other parties including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Shiromani Akali Dal's Parkash Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia as well as former Chief Minister and Punjab Lok Congress chief Amarinder Singh are currently trailing in their seats.
The ruling Congress has been dislodged to second place with the Akali Dal coming at the third spot.
As of 11 am this morning the trends showed AAP leading in 89 seats and Congress in 13 out of the total 117 seats. Akalis are leading in 10 and BJP and allies in 5.
