7th International Day of Yoga celebrations held across Kashmir Valley

International Day of Yoga was celebrated with full enthusiasm all over Jammu and Kashmir

The 7th International Day of Yoga celebrations were held across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. In Srinagar, the Sports Council organised an event at the TRC Turf Ground which received a good response from the public. Owing to Covid-19 SOPs, the number of participants was restricted and all the necessary steps were taken to adhere to the government guidelines. Junaid Azim Matoo, the Mayor of Srinagar, was the chief guest.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar health department had also organized a similar event with the theme 'Be with yoga, be at home'. The event was conducted by Asif Kundangar, Rehana (yoga therapist) and Ruhail John. It was also telecast live to participants through an app.

In Anantnag, the department of Youth Services and Sports, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Anantnag, organised the main event at sports stadium Anantnag where students, volunteers and officials participated amid strict observance of Covid SOPs. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh presided over the event as Chief Guest and administered oath/pledge to the participants.

The event was also attended by District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Mushtaq Ahmad, District Youth Coordinator, Khalil Ahmad Mir, Zonal Physical Education Officer Bashir Ahmad, students from various educational institutions, volunteers and field functionaries of the concerned departments.

In Pulwama, the district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports and AYUSH and NYK, organised a function in connection with the celebration of 7th International Day of Yoga.

The function was joined by the Chairperson DDC, Syed Abdul Bari Andrabi, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Naya Jammu Kashmir, Baseer ul Choudary, all district officers and employees of various departments including NYK who performed yoga asanas.

In Kupwara, the International Yoga Day was celebrated across the district with full zeal and enthusiasm. Apart from participation of school children in 24 blocks of the district, people from different walks of life including women, adults and youth, participated in various yoga events held in the district.

The main official event organised by the Department of AYUSH Kupwara and District Youth Services and Sports department Kupwara was held at Boys Higher Secondary School.

On the occasion, Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) Kupwara Farooq Iqbal and District Youth Services & Sports (DYS&S) Officer, Jitender Singh were also present.

The International Day of Yoga was also celebrated at TRC Kupwara and Dak Banglow Kupwara in which people from different walks of life participated enthusiastically.

In Shopian, Youth Services & Sports Department Shopian, in collaboration with Indian Systems of Medicine, AYUSH, organised an event at Bohrihallan. On the occasion, yoga trainers briefed about the essence of yogic exercises on the health of individuals. The event was inaugurated by DC Shopian in presence of Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, District Information Officer Shopian, District AYUSH Officer, District Youth Sports Officer and other concerned.

Meanwhile, the Self Help Groups registered under National Rural Livelihood Mission also celebrated yoga day in all blocks of the district.

In Kulgam, the yoga sessions were organized by the district administration and similar sessions were also held in premises of the mini-secretariat today.

Kulgam Deputy Commissioner Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat participated in the yoga session and performed various yog asanas. The session was also attended by staff of AYUSH department, physical education teachers and other staff of youth services sports department besides students and employees.

In Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Owais Ahmad led the celebrations by practicing yoga at SK Stadium on Monday morning.

A simple yet impressive programme was organised which was attended by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Nodal Officer Reyaz Ahmad, Deputy SPs Mohammad Idrees and Ishfaq Alam besides officers of youth service and sports, Bandipora police and students of several educational institutes.

IN Baramulla, an event was organised at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in which Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar presided over as the chief guest. SSP Baramulla Rayees Ahmad Bhat, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Principal GHSS, district and sectoral officers among other concerned functionaries also participated in the event.

In Ganderbal, the International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the lawns of Mini Secretariat. Additional District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Muzafar Ahmed was the chief Guest on the occasion along with Additional Deputy Commissioner, Farooq Ahmad Baba.

District Youth Services & Sports Officer Shafkat Iqbal, District Nodal officer Mushtaq Ahmad, activity in charge DYSSO Ganderbal, Mohammad Maqbool and other staff members were present on the occasion.

In Budgam, the main event was held at the Sports Stadium which witnessed participation of a huge number of students. On the occasion, yoga teachers briefed about the essence of yogic exercises for the health of individuals.

Deputy Commissioner Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza and SSP Tahir Saleem were the chief guests and other prominent dignitaries including District Officer Ayush Raja Amjad and District Youth Services Sports Officer Masrat Jan also graced the occasion.
