India’s total active Covid-19 caseload fell for the second day in a row on Wednesday as the number of patients who recovered from the disease exceeded the fresh cases of coronavirus infections reported during the day. This has raised hopes that the second ferocious Covid-19 wave sweeping across the country is receding in some states.
Figures released by the Health Ministry showed that 3,55,338 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours while 3.44 lakh fresh cases were reported during this period.
“A net decline of 11,122 cases is recorded in the active caseload in the last 24 hours. This is the second consecutive day of decline in the active cases,” the health ministry said.
India’s total active caseload has dipped to 37,04,099 today. The national recovery rate works out to 83.04%.
As many as 19.84 lakh tests for Covid were carried out during the day although some states are lagging behind the targeted figure.
The official figures show that 13 states account for 82.51% of the total number of active cases in India which were estimated at 37,04,099 on Wednesday.
Maharashtra, UP Gujarat and Delhi were the leading states in which the number of recoveries surpassed the number of fresh Covid cases while Odisha, Rajasthan, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were the states to record the highest net increase in coronavirus patients.
Meanwhile, 17.52 crore people have now been vaccinated in the country as the inoculation drive has been accelerated.
The health ministry statement said that the government is expeditiously delivering global aid to States/UTs under the “Whole of Government” approach, to augment their efforts in COVID management.
9,200 Oxygen Concentrators, 5,243 Oxygen Cylinders, 19 Oxygen Generation Plants, 5,913ventilators/ Bi PAP and ~3.44LRemdesivir vials received as part of global aid to India have been delivered/ dispatched to States and UTs to strengthen and supplement their COVID response, so far.
The Union Government is ensuring a streamlined and fast delivery of the global aid to States and UTs through faster custom clearances, and use of air and road, the statement added.
