The Delhi government on Saturday decided to extend the current lockdown by another week in the wake of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the city.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Lockdown in Delhi is being extended by one week."
The lockdown in Delhi will now continue till 5 am on May 10 and the restrictions that were announced in the previous order will continue.
During the lockdown, only essential services like medicine shops, vegetable shops, groceries etc. will be allowed to function, but shop owners and customers will have to ensure social distancing.
For over a fortnight, Delhi has seen a rapid rise in its Covid-19 cases, resulting in an acute shortage of hospital beds. The number of deaths have also risen.
Earlier in the week, a body of 95 traders' associations in Delhi had urged Delhi L-G Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to extend the lockdown till May 15 in order to control the transmission of the deadly Covid-19 wave.
