US citizens asked to leave India

As India is struggling to combat the spread of Covid 19 second wave, the US government in an advisory asked its citizens to leave the country.

According to Bloomberg report, in a Level 4 travel advisory — the highest issued by the Department of State — U.S. citizens were told "not to travel to India or to leave as soon as it is safe to do so." The department also said that there are 14 direct daily flights between India and the US and other services that connect through Europe.

Several other countries including Australia and UK have already barred flights from India in the wake of a sharp rise in Covid 19 cases.

Any visitor who has been in India in the previous 19 days is barred from entering the UK. However, British and Irish citizens wishing to return from India would be mandatorily required to quarantine in a hotel.

Meanwhile, India is opening vaccination drive for all adults from May 1 in a bid to contain the spread of the virus. Besides the India made Covishield which is being produced by Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech developed Covaxin, the Centre has also given its approval for emergency use of Russia made Sputnik V. It is expected to fast-track approvals of other foreign-produced Covid-19 vaccines as well that have been granted emergency authorisation in other countries.
