National Technology Awards 2020 announced providing impetus for Aatmanirbhar Bharat

Making India self-reliant

Twelve companies have been selected for the National Technology Awards 2020 for successful commercialization of innovative indigenous technologies.

The awards essentially acknowledge and recognize the Indian industries and their technology provider, who have worked as a team. By bringing innovation to the market, they contribute towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Selected for three categories — indigenous technologies, MSME, and startups – every year the Technology Development Board under Department of Science & Technology, seeks applications for these awards for commercialization of technologies.

Among this year’s 12 chosen companies include L&T Special Steels and Heavy Forgings P. Ltd., Surat. In a joint venture with Nuclear Power Corporation, they successfully developed critical forgings of 700 MWe after setting up the facility which has a melt capacity of 125 tons and an open die press that can exert force of 9000-10000 tons.

Likewise, Vinati Organics Limited, Mumbai working closely with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, developed the technology for making p-tert Butyl Toluene-PTBT (alkylation of Toluene using Isobutylene) followed by oxidation of PTBT to p-tert butyl Benzoic Acid (PTBBA) and licensed the same to VOL.

Established in 1996, the TDB provides financial assistance to companies working for commercialization of indigenous technologies and adaptation of imported technologies for domestic applications.

Till now over 300 companies have been funded for commercialization of technologies. Among them include Bharat Biotech International Limited, Shantha Biotechnics Biocon India Limited, Reva Electric Car Company, and Tata Motors (for Indica) among others.
