Ratan Tata asks Twitter users to call off their Bharat Ratna campaign for him

Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, on Saturday requested Twitter users to call off their campaign to confer the Bharat Ratna honour on him as he considered himself fortunate be an Indian and was able to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the country.

"While I appreciate the sentiments expressed by a section of the social media in terms of an award, I would humbly like to request that such campaigns be discontinued. Instead, I consider myself fortunate to be an Indian and to try and contribute to India's growth and prosperity," the prominent industrialist tweeted on Saturday in response to #BharatRatnaForRatanTata campaign which has been trending on social media.

The hashtag #BharatRatnaForRatanTata started trending on Twitter on Friday after motivational speaker Dr Vivek Bhindra tweeted on the campaign to confer the country's highest civilian award on Ratan Tata, who is known for his industrial achievements and philanthropic efforts.
