India’s prolific batting star Virat Kohli scripted history on Friday as he surpassed South Africa legend Jacques Kallis to enter the top 5 run-scorers list in international cricket.
Virat accomplished the extraordinary feat in India’s second Test against West Indies at Port of Spain which is his 500th international game. He was unbeaten on 87 in 161 balls at the end of the first day of the match.
Virat has now scored 25,548 runs in 500 matches at an average of 53.67. He has hit 75 centuries and 132 half-centuries in 559 innings.
Kallis’s total stands at 25,534 runs in 519 matches, with 62 centuries and 149 half-centuries.
Those ahead of Virat in the list are Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs in 664 matches), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28,016 runs in 594 matches), Australia’s Ricky Ponting (27,483 runs in 560 matches) and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (25,957 runs in 652 matches).
In the 111 Tests that he has played, Virat has scored 8642 runs at an average of 49.38. He has scored 28 centuries with the best score of 254 not out.
Virat has also scored 12,898 runs in 274 ODI matches, at an average of 57.32. He has scored 46 centuries.
