DIAL in a statement explained that this facility will generate boarding passes and baggage tags at the Self Check-in Kiosk. Following this, the passengers can scan their boarding passes at the baggage drop and load their luggage on the belt.
Before doing this, the travellers will have to first declare that their luggage does not contain prohibited items. In case the weight of the baggage exceeds the prescribed limit, the machine will reject it and the airline’s staff present at the drop facility will step in to provide assistance to the passenger.
At present, the Indigo travellers were able to use this facility. Now, five other airlines, namely, Vistara, Air India, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, British Airways and Air France are likely to allow their passengers to use the self-baggage-drop facility in the near future.
As per the airport official, DIAL plans to introduce the facility for international passengers as well after clearing mandatory approvals.
