The Indian Army has said that Drishti Rajkhowa, a senior leader of militant group ULFA (I), has surrendered in Meghalaya with four accomplices – SS Corporal Vedanta, Yasin Asom, Rupjyoti Asom and Mithun Asom.

Rajkhowa was one of the prominent leaders in ULFA (I) and was a close confidant of Paresh Baruah, the group's self-touted 'commander-in-chief'.

In a swift and well-planned operation executed by the Indian Army and intelligence agencies at the Meghalaya-Assam-Bangladesh border, dreaded hardcore ULFA (I) leader, SS Col Drishti Rajkhowa surrendered along with four assistants and a large  quantity of arms.

Rajkhowa had long been in the wanted list of ULFA insurgents responsible for spreading terror in lower Assam. His surrender is a major blow to the insurgency in north-east India.
