Unknown gunmen launched a big attack on the office of the Karachi police chief on the main thoroughfare of Karachi city on Friday evening. Firing and explosions were continuing till early night.

According to the Samaa TV website, one policeman was killed in the attack. Additional Inspector General Javed Alam Odho confirmed that the Karachi police office had come under attack.

Media reports say that upto ten attackers might be involved in the assault. The police has switched off the lights to confuse the attackers regarding the layout of the police building. The attack is reported to have taken place in a densely located area with the Financial Trade Centre (FTC), a popular business services area, located nearby.

Dawn newspaper reports that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed senior police officials to send additional personnel from other police stations. He is personally monitoring the situation and has directed the police to find out the perpetrators behind the attack.
